Yet, part of the job of a book like this is to challenge you with new, scientific information about how sound works and help you wrap your head around it in practice. And this book does that admirably, covering topics ranging from psychoacoustics, cabling and different signal types, gain staging, and new developments in digital audio production. This remarkable music video features an exceptionally talented young female dancer named Maddie Ziegler. Her stellar performance is both hypnotic and mesmerizing. (We love escalating dance performances in music videos — we did a whole thing on it.) The song itself conveys Sia’s struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, and Ziegler’s wild dancing is a striking visual depiction of that mixed with the guilt and pain that follows. She violently jumps and throws herself around the empty room with constantly changing expressions of anger, pain, confusion, excitement, and sadness. The room itself is empty and represents a mind that is distressed and sadly neglected.

The group was formed in 1966 by Mingiedi Mawangu, a member of the Zombo tribe. He began his musical career transcribing traditional Zombo music that was originally played by an ensemble of horns made from elephant tusks to be played on likembé. While he played with many different ensembles, it was his album, Congotronics (named after the way he’d jerry-rig different electronics together to make working parts) that eventually afforded him his international acclaim. In 2010, the band collaborated with Herbie Hancock on The Imagine Project and earned their first Grammy.

It’s important to note that I’m not a banker, realtor, or CPA. This is just my perspective and understanding. Before making a big purchase like this, be sure to talk to a professional. Every situation is different, even if the broad strokes may be similar. But hopefully this post has helped equip you with some knowledge to be prepared and get the loan you need.

Door splits are pretty simple, I typically give the headliner 75% if there is only one opener, and 60% if there are two. Guarantees can be a bit more tricky. You’ll need to be pretty confident about a band’s past numbers in order to make sure you’re not left paying more than you earn at the door. Their booking agent should be able to give you an estimate of what they bring in locally, and so should the venue representative if they’ve worked with them before. But remember that marketing and promotion can also play a huge role in getting your numbers up (so we’ll cover that one below!).

Dub music producers like King Tubby and Lee “Scratch” Perry played the Space Echo almost as if it were its own instrument. On Augustus Pablo’s song “555 Dub Street,” Lee Perry uses the Space Echo on the melodica and turns what most consider a harsh, uninviting instrument into something lush and layered.

Another reason they check bank statements is for “buy here, pay here” loans. In other words, car loans that don’t necessarily go through a bank (or show up on your credit), large furniture or electronic purchases, etc. During the underwriting process, try to avoid making any big purchases or you can make the lender skittish.
“It’s really a ray of light. Just to be able to go there and see friends come in that you haven’t heard from or been in communication with, like, it’s such a relief to know you’re OK and you’re here and you have a place with food,” she says. “If I hadn’t gone to El Local this last week, I would be super, super hungry, and probably super depressed. It’s not only about the food and meeting people, it’s having that little space where it’s comfortable, and we take our instruments, and we jam out, and we play board games, and we have conversations, and we hug each other. It’s much more than a community kitchen; it’s making the whole corillo [Spanish for “community of friends”] feel better about the whole situation.”
“Perfect”: The pre-chorus section here does something fun, changing up about half the lyrics to make it kind of like a pre-chorus/verse hybrid type thing. I can’t remember when I’ve seen that before, at least not to this degree of lyrical tinkering.
